Social Media & Home Burglaries

Many people love to let friends and family know what is new in their lives via social media.  What they fail to understand is that this is also “advertising” information that can help burglars.

Simple tips to help keep your home safe are:

  1. Do not post any information about future trips.  A burglar would just love to know that you will be out of town during spring break.  Don’t make it easy for someone to know when you will be gone.
  2. Do not post pictures “during” your vacation.  You may want to show the fantastic view of the sunset in France but its wise not to do so.   Hold all holiday pictures to post online when you get home. Not during your trip.
  3. Do not post pictures or discuss any new high ticket items that you may have bought.  This just advertises what is available in your home for a burglar to steal.

Easter egg decorating and hunting is always fun.  However basic safety precautions must be kept in mind when preparing the decorated eggs.

  Use different eggs for decorating /egg hunting and Eating.   A good consideration is to use plastic eggs for your Easter egg hunt.

  1. Make sure everything is clean before you start decorating eggs.  Thoroughly wash countertops, utensils and all surfaces after handling raw eggs. Wash your hands before and after touching raw eggs.
  1. Carefully supervise children when egg decorating.  Raw eggs can contain salmonella so close supervision is essential.
  1. If you want to eat the eggs that you dye make sure you are using food grade dyes.  Regular nonfood grade dyes can be toxic and absorbed into the egg.
